Your book, read aloud with care

We manage the whole production of your audiobook, from finding the right narrator to delivering edited, mastered chapter files prepared to the technical standards audiobook platforms commonly ask for.

Listeners spend hours with a narrator, so the voice has to feel right for the story.

Overview

From printed page to finished audio

A good audiobook starts with casting. We prepare a short audition script from your book, covering narration, dialogue and any tricky accents or names, and send it to narrators whose voices suit the genre and point of view. You listen to the auditions and choose. Before recording starts, the narrator receives a pronunciation guide and character notes.

After recording, each chapter is edited to remove distracting breaths, mouth noise and misreads, then checked against the text by a proofer. Mastering brings loudness and tone into line across every file, with consistent room tone at the head and tail of each chapter, matching the kind of specifications retailers and distributors typically publish for submitted audio.

Why it matters

What you gain with audiobook production

We manage the whole production of your audiobook, from finding the right narrator to delivering edited, mastered chapter files prepared to the technical standards audiobook platforms commonly ask for.

01

Narrator chosen by you

You hear auditions from narrators suited to your genre, age range and tone, and make the final choice, with guidance on what to listen for.

02

Accurate to the text

A proofer follows along with your book while listening, flagging misread words, skipped lines and mispronunciations so they are corrected before mastering.

03

Platform-ready files

Finished audio is delivered as separate chapter files with consistent loudness, controlled noise levels and short room-tone pauses, the format distribution platforms commonly expect.

04

Opening and closing credits

We record the standard opening and closing credits and can produce a retail sample, so your audiobook has everything a listing usually needs.

FAQ

Questions about audiobook production

Ask us something else

Many nonfiction authors and memoirists do, and listeners often appreciate hearing the author. If you would like to narrate, we can discuss studio options, coaching and direction, and then handle editing and mastering. A short test recording helps decide whether it is the right choice.

Audiobook platforms publish their own requirements, and these typically cover loudness range, peak levels, noise floor, room tone at the start and end of each file, and one file per chapter. We master to the specifications of the platforms you plan to use and check every file before delivery.

Book length and the narrator's availability are the main factors. A finished hour of audio takes several hours of recording, editing and proofing, so a full novel takes a number of weeks. We agree on a schedule with you once a narrator is cast.

Pricing is usually based on the finished length of the audio, often estimated from your word count, together with the narrator's rate. Multi-voice casts or heavy accent work add to the cost. You receive an itemized quote before casting begins.

As a general principle you keep ownership of your book and its audio recordings, and you receive the master files. Narrator agreements can vary, so the exact rights position for your project is set out in writing before any recording starts.
