Printed copies, specified with care
Whether you need fifty copies for a launch event or a larger offset run, we help you write a clear print specification, compare quotes, check proofs and avoid surprises on delivery.
- Free initial consultation
- Clear written quote
A precise print specification is the difference between a fair quote and an expensive surprise.
Getting the print order right first time
Ordering printed books in quantity is a different exercise from print-on-demand. You commit money upfront, and a printer needs an exact specification: trim size, extent, paper weight and shade, cover board, lamination, binding style and delivery address. A vague brief produces quotes that cannot be compared and books that are not quite what you pictured.
We help you build that specification, request quotes on a like-for-like basis and understand the difference between digital printing, which suits shorter runs, and offset printing, which becomes economical in larger quantities and offers more finishes. Before the run, we check the printer's proof against your files so errors are caught while they are still inexpensive.

What you gain with book printing assistance
Whether you need fifty copies for a launch event or a larger offset run, we help you write a clear print specification, compare quotes, check proofs and avoid surprises on delivery.
Like-for-like quotes
We prepare one detailed specification and use it for every quote request, so you can compare printers on price, schedule and finish rather than guessing what each one included.
Offset or digital, explained
Digital printing suits small and medium runs with quicker turnaround, while offset suits larger quantities and special finishes. We show where the crossover sits for your particular book.
Paper and binding choices
Paper weight, shade and opacity, along with perfect, sewn, saddle-stitched or case binding, change how a book feels and lasts. We recommend options suited to how it will be used.
Proofs checked properly
We review digital and printed proofs for color shifts, imposition errors, missing pages and cover alignment, then confirm corrections with the printer before production starts.
Everything in the brief
The exact scope is confirmed in writing before work begins, so you always know what you are paying for.
- Authors ordering stock for events, signings or direct sales

Four clear steps
- 1
Define the job
We agree quantity, budget, deadline and how the books will be used, from bookshop stock to conference giveaways, and draft the specification.
- 2
Gather quotes
Quote requests go to suitable printers using the same specification, and we present the results side by side with notes on each.
- 3
Prepare and proof
Files are adjusted to the chosen printer's requirements, and we check the proofs they return, flagging anything that needs correcting before approval.
- 4
Print and deliver
Once you sign off, the printer produces the run. We help confirm delivery details and guide you in checking the first finished copies on arrival.
There is no single number. The crossover depends on page count, format, color and finishing, and printers price differently. For many books digital remains sensible for a few hundred copies, while offset tends to win at higher quantities. We compare real quotes for your specification.
Often, yes. Overseas printing can reduce the cost per copy for larger runs, but shipping, import duties and longer schedules need factoring in. We include those considerations when comparing quotes so the total cost is clear.
Perfect binding glues the pages to the spine and is standard for most paperbacks. Sewn binding stitches the pages in sections before gluing, so the book lies flatter and lasts longer, which suits cookbooks, heavy nonfiction and premium editions.
Usually the order and contract sit between you and the printer, so you pay them directly and own the stock. We prepare the specification, handle the technical conversations and check proofs, but you approve the final order.
Digital runs can be fairly quick once files are approved, while offset printing involves more setup and may need several weeks, plus shipping. We ask each printer for a schedule with their quote so you can plan around your launch date.
