Layouts for books that are meant to be looked at
Some books are as much visual as verbal. We design layouts for recipes, exercises, photographs and diagrams, giving each spread a clear hierarchy so readers know where to look first.

- One point of contact
On a visual page, white space is never empty: it tells the reader where to rest.
When a page holds more than text
A novel flows from one page to the next. A cookbook, workbook or textbook is used differently: readers flip, scan, return and follow steps with their hands busy. Each spread has to organize photos, headings, lists, captions and white space so the most useful information can be found at a glance.
We start by building a flexible grid and a set of templates for your recurring page types, such as a recipe spread, a chapter summary or a worksheet. Once you approve them, we lay out the book spread by spread, pacing images thoughtfully and adjusting wherever content refuses to fit the template.
What you gain with book layout design
Some books are as much visual as verbal. We design layouts for recipes, exercises, photographs and diagrams, giving each spread a clear hierarchy so readers know where to look first.
Grids that flex
A modular grid keeps pages consistent while allowing variety, so a full-bleed photo, a two-column recipe and a sidebar can all sit comfortably within the same book.
Templates per page type
Recipes, exercises, case studies and photo essays each get their own designed template, which keeps a long, complex book consistent and makes later editions easier to update.
Image-led spreads
We crop, scale and pace photographs and illustrations across spreads, considering how facing pages work together rather than treating each page in isolation.
Designed for real use
Workbooks get writing space sized for actual handwriting, cookbooks get ingredient lists you can read from across a kitchen, and textbooks get consistent signposting for revision.
From first read to final file
You are kept informed at every stage, and nothing moves forward without your approval.

Discuss Your Layout
It only takes a minute.
Standard interior design mostly handles continuous text. Layout design is for books where text, images, tables and white space must be arranged spread by spread, with several page templates working together. It takes more design time and more decisions about visual hierarchy.
It helps to have final images, or at least a clear shot list, because layouts depend heavily on image shape and quality. We can begin with placeholders and drop in final photos later, though that adds an extra checking stage to the schedule.
Yes. We design writing lines, checklists and exercises for the printed book, and can prepare a printable PDF of the worksheets for readers to download. Interactive fillable PDFs are possible for some projects and are scoped separately.
We establish styles for figures, tables, captions, numbered lists and boxed features, then apply them consistently so students can find their way easily. Complex diagrams can be redrawn for clarity where you hold the rights to the originals or supply new artwork.
Visual books take longer than text-led ones because each spread is composed individually. Timing depends on page count, the number of images and how final your content is. We agree on a schedule after content mapping, with milestones for templates and full proofs.
